Shahid Law Office opened its doors in February 1997. Its founder, A. Peter Shahid, Jr., established the law firm as a sole practitioner with the intent of providing his clients superior legal representation with individual and personal attention. A. Peter Shahid, Jr.
Peter Shahid is a Charleston native. A graduate of the University of South Carolina in 1978, he obtained his law degree from the same university in 1981.
During his 25 years of practicing law, Mr. Shahid has served as a Charleston County Public Defender, Assistant U.S. Attorney, Mount Pleasant Municipal Judge and as a Sole Practitioner. He is a member of the Charleston County Bar Association, the South Carolina Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Mr. Shahid has served on the Charleston County Public Defenders Board. He is admitted to practice in all South Carolina courts and in U.S. District Court, U.S. Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. He currently serves as General Counsel for the Catholic Diocese of Charleston and is a member of the National Diocesan Attorneys Association.
Involved in his community, Mr. Shahid serves as the Director of the annual Knights of Columbus Council #704 Turkey Day Run & Gobble – the most popular 5K road race in the state. He is a member of the Hibernian Society and a basketball coach at The Charleston Catholic School. He also served on the Board of the Florence Crittenton House and the Finance Committee at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.
Mr. Shahid is married to attorney Mary D. Shahid and has three children.

Erin Groeber
Erin Galloway Groeber has been assisting Peter Shahid on several cases since the summer of 2007. She will join the firm as an associate in the fall of 2008. Originally from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Government and Politics magna cum laude from the University of Maryland in 2003. In 2007, she graduated magna cum laude from Notre Dame Law School.
During her time at the University of Maryland, Ms. Groeber was a Rhodes Scholarship Michigan state finalist and was inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa Honors Society. She served as a legislative intern for state delegate Bill Frank, was an intern in the Pro-Life Activities Office at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, was the founder and chair of the Pro-Life Committee at the University of Maryland Catholic Student Center and the founder of the University of Maryland Students for Life. Additionally, Ms. Groeber was a coach and counselor at the International School of Soccer in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, the president of the Maryland Women's Club Volleyball and director and coach of Little Terps Soccer Club.
While at Notre Dame Law School, Ms. Groeber served as a research assistant to Professor Carter Snead. Ms. Groeber assisted Professor Snead in researching and writing articles in the areas of Bioethics and the Law and Neuroimaging and the Law. She won the Dean's Award for Best Paper in a Bioethics Seminar and for several semesters was named to the Dean's List. Ms. Groeber also worked as a Blackstone Legal Intern at the National Right to Life Center for Bioethics and spent a summer working at the former Helms, Mulliss and Wicker in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Ms. Groeber was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 2007. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the Charleston County Bar Association and the Federalist Society.
Ms. Groeber has assisted Mr. Peter Shahid on several cases including implementation of the class action settlement of sexual abuse claims involving the Catholic Diocese of Charleston. She has also worked with Mr. Shahid on various family law and personal injury cases.
Ms. Groeber is married to Assistant Public Defender Cody J. Groeber. They have one son.
